ABOUT FASTLY
Hi. It's me. That girl who does not seem like she would love F1.
Let me introduce myself: I'm a girl in her 20s who went to art school (that's right, art school) and studied film. If that wasn't bad enough, I'm also a dedicated theater junkie (yes - a theater kid). It gets worse. I love pink. I care deeply about the ongoing upkeep and architectural developments at Disney parks across the world. I am probably listening to a Broadway cast album as you are sitting there reading this. On top of everything else, I love glitter.
In other words, I'm the last person you'd think of when you picture an "F1 fan" (unless you don't picture anyone when you think of an F1 fan because you don't know what F1 is. I get that. If that's you, head to my "What is F1?" tab and we'll get that sorted quick!).
So what happened?
The first clue was actually my mom. She is perhaps even more averse to sports than I am. When I came home to visit for several weekends in a row during the summer, I noticed that my mom and dad were watching something called Formula 1 during dinner - and that my mom was actually invested. Up until this point in our lives, a car was a car.
But then I figured out the secret: it's the people in the cars that makes this spork so special. And the people that make the cars. And the people that love the cars. It's the people.
It's one thing to show an arty girl like me a car and expect me to know what I'm looking at. But it's another when there's too much world class drama and personality on display to even consider ignoring it.
That, I suppose, is why I am now the only girl in a 25 mile radius who is prepared to give you the full rundown on the 20 drivers and 10 teams competing in Formula 1 today. Of course, I'm still learning. But I'm really enjoying the ride.
And I hope you are, too.
