Not much to say about this one and was a big snooze this year, although Uncle Tom and Ryan were there so that made it exciting. I am still DEVASTATED that Red Bull fired Christian Horner.

Practice

  • in the several weeks before this race, RED BULL FIRED CHRISTIAN HORNER after 20 years of leading that team as team principal

  • Now Laurent Mekies who was head of Racing Bulls is head of Red Bull

Sprint Qualifying

  • Hamilton spins at the last second and gets out in Q1 of sprint qualifying

  • Kimi out at end of Q1 too

  • Yuki and Liam and George Russell out in Q2

Sprint

  • Max wins!! He kept ahead of Oscar and Lando

Qualifying

  • Lance didn’t let Hulkenberg into the exit line in pits and just ran over his front wing

  • Kimi out in Q1! Both Aston Martins are 19 and 20 with Stroll last

  • Hamilton’s lap got deleted for track limits so he is also out in Q1!!

  • Lando on pole, then Oscar, then Charles

Race

  • hour and twenty minute rain delay and then rolling start

  • Oscar gets past Lando for the lead pretty easily on the restart

  • Oscar wins, Lando in second, then Charles

A chaotic, fantastic race with rain making for very exciting mixed conditions. You couldn’t take your eyes off the screen! Constant upsets and pit stops and changes. There was a chance Stroll was going to get a podium, but the biggest highlight was that Hulkenberg got his first podium after finishing third. Oscar would have won but for the penalty given to him after a safety car restart where he braked to cause over 100 mph of speed loss and also ruined Max’s race. It was a miserable race weekend for the commentary, but I haven’t seen a race this exciting in a long time.

Practices

  • black and white flag for Liam Lawson for driving erratically

  • Red flag for debris on track

  • Bortolero has a suspension failure and red flags

  • Ollie crashes on his way to the pit lane

Qualifying

  • Ollie Bearman gets a 10 place grid penalty and 4 penalty points after his crash going into the pit lane speeding under the red flag

  • Colapinto crashes in Q1 and keeps it going but it looks bad

  • Out in Q2: Sainz, Yuki, Hadjar, Albon and Ocon

  • Max on pole!! Then Oscar and Lando

Race

  • Colapinto was supposed to start from the pit lane but then he never started

  • Liam Lawson creases into Ocon and virtual safety car

  • Max keeps the lead at the beginning

  • The track is wet so lots of question about which tires to be on

  • Bortoleto gets on slicks too early and crashes and then second virtual safety car

  • Rain is looming and this is chaotic

  • Oscar passes Max for the lead

  • Charles goes straight over a bunch of grass when water gets into his helmet

  • Safety car for heavy rain which allows Max to catch back up to Oscar in the lead

  • Hadjar crashes after the start of the second safety car and then crashes to trigger the third safety car. He hit Kimi

  • Oscar slowed to basically a stop suddenly behind the safety car to restart and Max went a little ahead of him and was angry and it wasn’t okay to stop that much

  • Max slides on restart after Oscar stopped too fast and loses about 10 places

  • Ollie Bearman slides but keeps going

  • Tsunoda hits Antonelli and Antonelli has to retire so now 5 of the 6 rookies are retired

  • Oscar under investigation for stopping too erratically behind the safety car

  • 10 second time penalty for Oscar for the safety car infringement

  • Yuki Tsunoda gets a 10 second time penalty for hitting Antonelli

  • There’s a chance that Hulk will get a podium after like forever for the first time

  • Sainz says Charles was reckless passing him

  • George goes onto the slicks too early and spins around

  • Ocon and Bearman hit each other in the Haases and then keep going

  • Lando wins, Oscar in second, Nico Hulkenberg in third after 239 races without ever getting a podium!!!

  • Oscar is distraught in the post-race interview and barely says anything and it’s so painful

Most notable is the chaotic start. Have you ever seen an aborted start that relegated Sainz to the pit line, only to have the car start on fire so he had to retire? I have now.

Qualifying

  • Yuki Tsunoda is out in Q1 AGAIN

  • Third consecutive q1 elimination for Sainz!

  • A yellow flag for Gasly disrupted both Max and Oscar’s final Q3 laps

  • Lando on pole, then Charles and Oscar

  • Somehow Liam Lawson is 6th

Race

  • On formation lap, Sainz cars stalls but then he gets it going right when they call aborted start as the rest of the cars are coming so then now we have to wait 10 minutes

  • As Sainz goes into pit lane to start, the back of the car starts on fire and he retires. So chaotic

  • Kimi Antonelli hits Max and they are both out of the race

  • Albon retires too because of a car problem, so both Williams out

  • Yuki hit someone so he has a ten second time penalty

  • Colapinto in last was racing Yuki in second to last and then tried a move on Yuki but Oscar was nearby lapping them and Colapinto pushed him on the grass while trying to race Yuki

  • Bortoleto is racing his manager, Alonso, who came over to give him a hug after the race

  • Lando wins, Oscar in second, Charles in third
