In a few words: Oscar is the first driver to repeat win this year. A pretty good race with several technical issues in the cars and even for the broadcast, too, with losing the timings tower on screen. Red Bull didn’t have a strong race, but Yuki finished only two places behind Max. Charles did a great job holding off Lando for so long and it probably cost Lando 2nd in the end.

Practices

  • Crofty was talking about how Carlos Sainz got fined for missing the national anthem last race because of a tummy issue and Carlos said he was 5 seconds late and Crofty was like ummm actually he was 15 seconds late into the pen

  • In practice 3, Charles mirror just flew off with no reason. So Ferrari.

Qualifying

  • Lawson 17th for a DRS problem and Ollie Bearman last

  • Q2 interrupted with red flag for Ocon crash near the place where Grosjean crashed but the other side of the crash

  • Down to the last second, no one had any idea who would be on pole

  • Oscar on pole, George Russell, Charles, Antonelli, Gasly, Norris, Verstappen, Sainz, Hamilton and Tsunoda

Race

  • Oscar keeps the lead at the beginning

  • Lando gets a 5 second penalty for a false start for being outside of his grid box at the start

  • Safety car for a brush between Sainz and Tsunoda

  • Lawson has a five second penalty for causing a collision with Stroll, then gets a 10 second penalty for causing a collision with Hulk

  • They randomly lost the timings tower on the left around lap 40

  • The Red Bull pit stops are slow because of a malfunctioning light, it doesn’t go green

  • Sainz gets a 10 second time penalty for a scrape with Antonelli

  • Potential penalty for DRS infringement for George Russell and lots of gremlins on his car this race

  • Potential DRS issue for all cars

  • Lots of black and white flags for track limits nearing the end of the race and good racing

  • Sainz has to retire the car after a huge chunk of the car is missing

  • Max gets Gasly on the line for 6th

  • Oscar wins! George in second, Lando in third, Charles who held off Lando a good chunk near the end, Hamilton, Max, Gasly, Ocon, Tsunoda

  • Why is Hamilton driver of the day? He did nothing

  • George takes off his shirt in the cooldown room hahahah

In a few words: Quiet race, but made really enjoyable by sassy Jaques Villeneuve commentary and so happy to see Max win for the first time this year.

Practices

  • we’ve already had a team change 2 races in and Yuki Tsunoda is swapping with Liam Lawson at big Red Bull, DRAMA

  • P2 Jack Doohan crashes into first corner and red flag and he could be injured because it was quite a high speed crash

  • At restart of P2 Alonso dips a wheel in the grass and gets beached in the gravel and causes another red flag

  • Just like last year in Shanghai, the grass caught fire from the sparks of the cars

  • Fourth red flag of p2 for another grass fire

  • P3, another red flag in the first ten minutes for a grass fire

Qualifying

  • Lawson does get out of Q1 in his first time back in racing bulls but he’s only 15th

  • Isack Hadjar is having a really bad time with his seat belts and it’s kind of heartbreaking

  • In Q2 there’s another red flag for a grass fire

  • YAY Max is in pole! He’s soooo happy!

Race

  • Max and Lando are dramatically pointing towards each other at the start, but a clean start and Max keeps the lead

  • Max and Lando put at the same time and Max gets out ahead but Lando accuses Max of pushing him off onto the grass but Max kept his line the whole time and Lando drove onto the grass himself and stewards said no further investigation

  • Having a really fun time listening to Jacques Villeneuve’s sassy commentary with Crofty on this race

  • Max wins!! He’s the first to win four times in a row at Suzuka

  • Yuki finishes 12th, but importantly Lawson is 17th (his teammate Hadjar is in 8th)

In a few words: A sprint weekend that did't have a riveting race, but I'm happy for Oscar. Best part was Charles hitting Hamilton early on in the feature race. Brutal weekend again for Liam Lawson in both sprint and feature race.

Notes:

Sprint quali

  • Liam Lawson plumb last in sprint quali

  • Hamilton on pole, max in second

Sprint

  • Ugh Hamilton wins

Qualifying

  • Liam Lawson is plumb last, p20

  • Oscar Piastri’s first pole!

Race

  • Lawson starts from the pit lane

  • Leclerc hit Hamilton on the first lap and now Charles doesn’t have a front wing

  • Alonso retires again from break failure

  • Oscar wins! Lando second even with his breaks failing. George third. Max, Charles then Hamilton.
